Get a Burn Permit

Local burn-permit information

Burn permits are required for ALL open burning.

The rules for burn permits can be confusing. When in doubt, contact your local fire department to make sure you are following the appropriate legal protocols.

If you are in a State Responsibility Area (SRA), apply to CAL FIRE for a burn permit: https://burnpermit.fire.ca.gov/.

In addition, all burn permits require an Air Quality permit: https://www.co.mendocino.ca.us/aqmd/burning-information.html.

CALL BEFORE YOU BURN: (707) 463-4354

In addition to obtaining a burn permit, you always need to determine whether or not the day you plan your burn is a “permissive burn day.” Call the Mendocino County Air Quality Management District before burning, to be sure that day is allowed.
