Women’s Chainsaw Workshop
In March 2024, the Mendocino County Fire Safe Council, Tan Oak Park, and NM-ERA collaborated to host a workshop aimed at creating a safe and supportive learning environment for women new to chainsaw use. The workshop was led by Cedar Long, a seasoned instructor with the California Conservation Corps.
The morning session focused on classroom instruction, covering key topics from the S-212 handbook, including personal protective equipment (PPE), hazard identification, cutting techniques, and more. In the afternoon, participants moved to the field for hands-on training.
The workshop was highly successful, with over 80 women signing up for the waitlist. While future dates have not yet been confirmed, plans are underway to offer additional sessions.
